THE UNIQUE HISTORY OF GUN OWNERSHIP IN OUR COMMUNITY
The history of gun ownership in the United States was dramatically different for African Americans. Since the beginning of the birth of the United States all citizens have had the option to exercise their free will in purchasing or not purchasing a gun for self defense and/or hunting. The exception to that rule was African Americans. Black Codes or laws were put into place in just about every State preventing African Americans from legally owning any type of firearm or weapon. These laws were used to oppress and control African-American populations, especially in the Southern States

Who Are We

The goal of the 5280 Steel Gun Club is to establish a 2nd Amendment Organization that educates and trains our community on the rich legacy of gun ownership of African Americans, offering education, training, support, safety standards, and cultural inspiration.
We are a pro 2nd amendment organization focused on the preservation of our community through armed protection and community building. We are a hub and network for all African American firearm owners, organizations, gun clubs and outdoor enthusiasts.
The long-term goal of the 5280 Steel Gun Club is to have every African American introduced to firearm use for home protection, competitive shooting, and outdoor recreational activities. We welcome people of all religious, political, social, and racial backgrounds.
We especially welcome African American members of law enforcement and active retired military.

Political Action

The National African American Gun Association (NAAGA) and 5280 Steel G.C., is a patriotic law abiding organization, but we recognize that there are national, local, and regional events that take place that need to be discussed and in some cases aggressively corrected through legal means as it relates to our community. Our organization was formed to advocate self defense with the use of firearms based on the 2nd Amendment, but a secondary and very important function of NAAGA is to be active on social issues. By collectively working together with a defined strategy, we can begin correcting social
injustice.

Political Activism

We vote our conscience and let our lawmakers know our concerns

Selective Economics

We will only support those companies, cities, individuals, and people that support us

Fundraising

We request donations from individuals for social causes and provide support to those issues.

We are a proud chapter of NAAGA

The founder and President of the National African American Gun Association is Philip Smith, a graduate of the University of California at Davis. He is an African-American Gun enthusiast and community organizer. He founded and started NAAGA with the primary goal to expose, educate, and motivate as many African American men and women to go out and purchase a firearm for self defense and to take training on proper gun use. NAAGA was officially started and launched on February 28, 2015, in honor of Black History Month.
